Giving, Fasting & Praying

In 2011, Women Walking in Wisdom embraced the theme of GIVING, PRAYING and FASTING.   A study of the scripture Matthew 6: 1-16, shows that these three disciplines are the foundation of the Christian faith.  We invite you to join us.

Giving:But when you do your charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret: and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.” Matthew 6:3-4

Jesus encourages the faithful believer to first GIVE to the needy. As a matter of practice, giving is to be a regular part of the Christian diet. And although we do not give to receive, the bible declares that our giving is rewarded.   The key to any financial breakthrough is to OPEN YOUR HAND. Although times may be tough, holding tightly to what you have will make it impossible for God to bless you.  Clenching your fist may not let anything out; but it also doesn’t let anything in.   When you unclench your fist and GIVE freely then the Father can GIVE right back to you.

Praying: And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Often when you ask people why they don’t pray, they say it is because they don’t know how.  Yet prayer is simply your heartfelt conversation with God.  It is not complicated.  Simply sharing your heart and waiting for Him to share His.  Prayer is a necessary ingredient of the Christian faith as it allows us to tap into a power that supersedes our own.

Women Walking in Wisdom prays corporately every Wednesday.  If you have special prayer requests, submit them here.

Fasting: Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

The women of WWW lay down their plates on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.  Some women fast the entire day, and some give up a meal.  But we all fast for the same reason:  to hear God more clearly in order to get direction for our lives.  We know that God has not stopped talking.  Rather, it is that we must get on his frequency.  Fasting allows us to do this.
